Earth Hour, taking place on Saturday 31 March is an international event to raise awareness on environmental issues and inspire local community action. Due to our recent Rena experience Tauranga has partnered with WWF to be the lead city in New Zealand for Earth Hour 2012.
Join our Earth Hour Community event
A candlelit acoustic concert (5.00 – 9.30pm) featuring a great range of local performers, including Luke Thompson, Matt Bodman, Nine Mile Stone, Marcel Currin, Leah Carroll and Ukes-A-Plenty.
A night market (5.00 – 8.30pm) with The Little Big Markets and environmental organisations. Some food stalls will be available or bring a picnic.
Earth Hour itself is 8.30 – 9.30pm at which point lights will go out to show our support and you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of music, lanterns and candles under the stars.
This is an alcohol free event. For more info or wet weather plans visit tauranga.govt.nz
Thanks to Flicker Candle Emporium for sponsoring our concert candles. Visit them online to get your own Earth Hour candle.
Help make our event sustainable
Every effort is being made to minimise the impact of this event. Bring a refillable water bottle with you and look out for the Hydrohub for free drinking water
or bring your re-usable coffee cup. Look out for the recycling station or take waste home with you. Plan your journey to the event and walk, cycle or carshare where you can.
